Gunyah Outdoors Awning – Fitting Instructions - Download file Doc Pdf

Thank you for purchasing a Gunyah Outdoors awning. We are proud of our products and value your comments.

Since most vehicles have different roof rack systems we recommend that you have the awning fitted by a qualified technician. Please contact us for a list of fitting services in your area.
Should you wish to fit the awning yourself, please use the following as a guide:

Fitting options:

1. Side Mounted

2. Below Roof Rack

3. On top of Roof Rack

Fitting Tips:

In all three options you will have to drill through the support bar or the awning (bar with flexible hinges & side supports) as well as the PVC Bag. The PVC bag is attached at the ends to the support bar and may move in the middle when you drill the holes. Ensure spacing is the same as at the ends.

Space the holes either to the top end or bottom of the support beam as the middle section is used for the side supports when folded up.

You may require some additional bolts depending on your specific needs. Ensure all bolts are securely fastened with Nylok nuts or Loctite and inspect regularly.

Should you wish to remove the awning on a regular basis we recommend you use some of the u-bolt kits that your roof rack manufacturer supplies.

Option one:

Mark where to fasten the awning to the roof cage or roof basket and drill holes through the aluminium bar, PVC bag and into the cage or basket.Fasten with stainless steel or zinc plated bolts and Nylok nuts. We recommend high tensile M6 with small washers. (Not supplied)

Option two:

For this option the L- brackets are fitted in line with the top of the support bar so that they can be bolted onto the roof racks or fitted with U-bolts. (Not supplied)

  1. Measure where the mounting points on the awning should be and mark with a pen.
  1. Fasten brackets to support bar:
  1. Align the brackets so that the top is level with the top part of the awning. Drill the holes through the support bar, PVC bag and L bracket.
  1. Fasten with the supplied bolts so that the bolts heads are on the inside of the bar and the nuts on the L-bracket side. Be sure to leave enough space for the side support poles to close properly by spacing the holes close to the top of the support bar.
  1. Fit to roof racks: For easy fitting first fasten one bracket to the roof rack and then drill the hole in the other – this makes alignment easier.

Option three - Fitting option best suited for sport style racks.

Same as option two but when measuring the holes for the bracket align the L-bracket with the bottom of the bar. When drilling the holes space them close to the bottom of the support bar.

If the awning is not fitted close to the end of the roof racks, allow for a 1 cm gap between the roof rack and the awning. This allows for the zipper to be opened without restriction.

For easy fitting and removal of the awning use U-bolts to fasten the fitting plates to the roof racks.
